Properties

 Fusidic acid is an antibiotic which has a potent antimicrobial activity against many gram-positive organisms particularly Staphylococci, including the strains resistant to penicillin or other antibiotics. Fusiderm gel provides highly effective topical treatment in primary and secondary bacterial infections of the skin and has a unique ability to penetrate intact skin.

 

Indications

 

Fusiderm gel is indicated for the topical treatment of skin infections due to susceptible bacteria, including:

• Impetigo
• Erythrasma
• Infected wounds
• Folliculitis - Furunculosis
• Infectious eczematoid dermatosis
• Abscesses

Fusiderm gel is a colorless and non staining preparation which makes it suitable for application to the exposed areas of the skin such as face, neck, and hands.

Contra-indication

 Fusidic acid and its derivatives should be avoided in patients known to be hypersensitive to fusidates.

 

Side effects

 Fusiderm gel is well tolerated, and there is an extremely low frequency of hypersensitivity reactions.

Dosage

 A thin film of Fusiderm gel to be applied to cover completely the affected area 2-3 times daily until favorable results are achieved.

 

Drug interactions

 No Major drug interaction.

 

Precaution

 Fusiderm gel is not for ophthalmic use.
